Which Is Healthier: High-Flying Planes or High-Rise Offices?

July 1st, 2007 by world_travel

Did you know that in an airplane the air changes 15-20 times an hour? In an office building it only changes 12 times an hour.

The risk of catching something from another infected passenger is about 1 in 1,000 which is about the same as an office building. The longer you fly, the drier your mucous membranes get. The dryer they get, the more susceptible they are to infection.

Your risk of getting sick is higher in a plane than your typical office because of the higher concentration of people for the air that you have. The ones that you really need to worry about are the people sitting next to you and within 2 rows of you.
