Luggage Buying Guide - Wheels or No Wheels?

December 5th, 2007 by World Traveler

Wheels can help tremendously when trekking through busy airports, or getting to and from your car. But if they break, you’re right back where you started, hauling your luggage around yourself. Or worse, broken wheels may mean ripped luggage. So make sure if you get rolling luggage that you get the right kind.
Always opt for luggage with recessed wheels (wheels that aren’t entirely exposed). Recessed wheels are less likely to break off because they are more protected against hang-ups on rocks, holes, or other people’s feet.

Wide wheels are better also, because they roll the smoothest, and the farther apart the wheels are the easier it will be to balance the piece of luggage. Wheels can make the trip much easier, but not if your luggage is constantly falling over!
